Halloween Skin Care Tips
By Ryan Harvey
Halloween is a great opportunity to experiment with makeup, but your skin shouldn’t suffer for it! Here are some must-know Halloween skin care tips…
Step One: Protect your skin from Halloween makeup
Before applying any face paint or makeup, your skin needs to be hydrated and moisturised. This reduces any drying out or cracking of makeup throughout the night. It also means that when it comes to washing it off, your skin won’t be as sensitive or dry!
Did you know that our Wonderment Skin Serum contains all-natural ingredients, such as Hyaluronic Acid to keep your skin well hydrated, and Vitamin B3 (Niacinamide). This prevents water loss to keep the skin moisturised.
Don’t be tempted to use last year’s makeup. Bacteria can quickly grow on unused products and makeup has an expiration date. Use clean brushes when applying makeup too, especially if you’re borrowing from a friend.
Do a patch test and read the label. Halloween makeup can contain a lot of chemicals and your skin may not be used to them. Always read the label, especially if you are applying stage makeup, as it can contain allergens, and isn’t designed for sensitive or acne prone skin. Here’s a helpful video on how to do a patch test at home.
Use a primer. Just like you would in your daily routine, it’s worth also using a primer for your Halloween makeup. A primer provides a barrier between your skin and makeup, blocking out potentially risky ingredients.
Step Two: Halloween makeup removal and cleansing
Don’t go to bed with your makeup on. Forgetting to wash off your Halloween makeup can clog your pores and irritate your skin.
As most makeup is oil-based, you’ll need a makeup remover oil or an oil-based cold cream. The skin around your eyes is delicate, so be gentle when removing makeup from this area of your face.
Don’t forget to cleanse. A cleanser will remove any leftover dirt and makeup from your skin, making sure they’re not left to clog your pores.
Step Three: Give your skin some TLC
After removing your Halloween makeup, your skin will need extra attention. Using a toner after cleansing can minimise the pores and reduce the chance of a breakout. A moisturiser, like our Wonderment Illuminating Night Cream, can rehydrate and help to repair the skin as it’s packed full of nutritious oils!
Give your skin a break. If your skin is red or feels irritated, stay away from exfoliants and other skin care products which are harsh on the skin for at least a few days.
